With the start of Fire Prevention Month this March, the Bureau of Fire Protection of San Fernando, Cebu celebrates fire prevention month with the theme: “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sariling Pamayanan Simulan. San Fernando, Cebu Fire Marshal Fire Chief Inspector Cecil Alicaya said the celebration is an annual activity of the BFP to observe and advocate fire prevention in the community through the visibility image campaign and to emphasize the importance of fire safety services in the municipality.
One major activity in this year celebration is to conduct fire drills most especially in schools and business establishments. The Opening of the Fire Prevention Month Ceremony was held last Wednesday, March 1, 2017 wherein the San Fernando, Cebu Fire Department had motorcade on the streets, which aims to intensify the information and education campaign and to generate active support and participation from the public in the government’s fire safety and prevention efforts. Then followed by a simultaneous blowing of horns of all fire-fighting apparatus to warn residents and remind them of the importance of fire awareness and a short fire drill in Rizal Park.
Some students were lucky to witness how a firefighter works. Aside from the demo to the students, Fire Department also conducted a poster making for elementary level and essay writing contest for high school level.
